MMP: Holmgren as GM?
Fox Sports is reporting that rumors persist that Mike Holmgren may have interest in becoming the 49ers general manager, should the team hire one.
- BY to let 49er fans know if he plans to retire after the season. (Noooooooooo)
- Nolan wins, Nolan loses. (Another great 4th down call Mike)
- Gore 81 shy of 1000.
- Nolan best when it matters the least. (Kawakami nails it again)
- Terps hook up. (VD is right, give him the damn ball)
- TJ Housdmansezsasdfwe wondered what the hell Nolan was thinking as well. (So is everyone else…still)

Im not too sure this is gonna happen.Anyone else agree?
It doesnt matter who your coach is, you Niners fans will never be happy. Sometimes it takes years for a great system to be put in place and you guys just dont want to give Nolan that time.
If Nolan is fired your still gonna have a losing season next year with yet ANOTHER new coach. And Nolan will go elsewhere in a couple years and achieve greatness…. In time.
But whatever, I guess you guys need something to bitch about on the internet, if it wasnt the coach it’d just be someone else. Leave the guy alone and let him do his job, he still has two years left to improve the team, for Christs sake give him his two years, he’s brought in some great talent and now that he finally has a thinking quarterback maybe we’ll see a turn around for the Niners next year.
Just hope Nolan can find a good replacement for Singletary, once they get over that hump for next year they might start playing tidy football.
well if we gave Gore the ball 20+ times every game this season he would have broke it allready, not to mention we’d be 14-0.
BTW i was referring to this statement in the post….
“TJ Housdmansezsasdfwe wondered what the hell Nolan was thinking as well. (So is everyone else…still)”
He was trying to put Hill in that situation since he’s never been in a situation like that before. He went for it for a good reason, who cares if they wouldve lost the game its building the experience for the team in all situations that will make greatness, but all you guys typing on the internet are big football stars who know sooo much about the game of football that why your coaching NFL teams.
Adscom… even football stars aren’t football experts.
Nolan didn’ go for it to give Hill experience. You don’t know that and I don’t know why people post their opinions as fact. Nolan stated that the reason he went for it was because on a previous 4th and 4, Larry Allen wanted to go for it. So, favoring his veteran players like he always does, he went for it, when he should have kicked a field goal to ensure a win. He wouldn’t put the team in that situation for Hill’s benefit. He still knows Alex Smith has a $49 Mil conract and that he’s going to be the guy next year.
Adscom…quit listening to the commentators for a second. No f’in way they went for it to give Hill experience in that situation. It was just another stupid call by Nolan.
More of a pipe dream than reality to get Holmgren to come here but if it did I foresee him taking over as coach somewhere down the line if Nolan doesn’t pan out. I say give Nolan ‘08 to prove himself with more talent and a GM calling personnel moves and than see what happens. If he fails THAN let him go. Even so Cowher said he would consider returning to coaching after ‘08….could get interesting this offseason.
I would give Nolan one more year to prove that he can coach the Niners. If I were Nolan, I would make A. Smith work for the starting job in 2008 and he would have to start S. Hill if Smith doesn’t show any progress.
IS IT TOO EARLY TO GET SOME P-WILLIS HIT HIGHLIGHTS?????????????
This has been my dream for years. However, Mike will never play for John and Denise York. I’d love to eat those words but I doubt I will.
I’d LOVE to see what Mike could do here. But even if he did come back — he’ll leave within a year of working for them.
Having Holmgren as the GM would not be IMHO a good idea. He failed in that role at Seattle and was stripped of that duty. He’s a great Head Coach though. Good GM’s are hard to find and I can only think of a few; Bill Polian, Ron Wolfe, Rich MacKay and the Patriots guy (Scott Peoli?). If the Yorks are serous this is not a position that should be filled on the cheap.
no on holmgren. if i wanted a team full of soft players lacking confidence i’d root for the seahawks.
Hey Adscom, shut the f’ up. You must really know jack shit about football if you think Nolan went for it to see how Hill would do in that situation. That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard, even for Nolan. He went for it because it was 4th and short and he thought we had the momentum to put the Bengals away, I don’t care what he says at his bulshit press conference. To say “who cares if we lost the game for the sake of building experience” is totally insane. It was the wrong decision. Nolan’s coaching for his fucking job and he damn well knows it. If we lost that game because of that 4th down play, all hell would have broken loose.
I’ll tell you what, I may not know everything about football, but I do have fucking common sense and it’s pretty obvious that most of us on this site know a hell of alot more about the game of football than you do.
P.S- And as long as I pay good money for my season tickets and I see this team continue to regress, (one game don’t mean shit) I feel I have a right to bitch.
This season IS NOT Nolan’s personal tutorial on how to coach the game of football. If one continues to fuck up, whether it’s personnel decisions or gameday management, he’s FIRED. That’s the bottom line. Coaches have been fired for a lot less, just ask Shottenheimer.
If you kick the field goal, you’re up by two scores, and the Ocho Cinco play in the enzone would not have made us hold our breath. It would not have mattered if Johnson scored or not. The game would have been over when Nedney kicked the field goal.
Just another bad decision in a long list of bad decisions.
rumors are going around that Brandon “Baby T.O.” Marshall just got in an Antonio Bryant-Bill Parcels type of fight with Shanahan and told them to cut him….the way he’s developed this year with 1,136 and 6 TDs and size ( 6′4, 240) i’d trade anything for him hint hint (Darrell Jackson and Arnaz Battle)
I wouldn’t mind having Brandon Marshall as long as he doesn’t bring his TO attitude (if he even has an attitude…I don’t know much about him off the field). I am going to stick by my guns and say that we need to get a receiver with our first pick. Marshall would be a great addition, but I don’t think that there is a snowballs chance in hell that he gets cut without any compensation for Coach Kevlar. You guys have to realize two things (which I think most of you already know) Alex Smith is going to be the starter next year unless Shaun Hill throws for like 300 yards and four TDs a game. Yes, Hill did well against a pathetic Bengals defense, but let’s see how he fares against the Bucs before we start saying “to hell with Alex Smith”. Give Smith some targets and a mentor that doesn’t tell him to hold on to the ball like Rosie O’Donnell does a chocolate cake (aka Dilfer the dildo). Smith needs to work on a quicker release because he holds on to the ball too long, but IS THAT WRONG IF NO ONE IS OPEN??? Holgren…come back and then we will go from there. I am on the fence now with Nolan because I don’t know what could happen with a new OC. However, only four wins doesn’t give Nolan a major case for his cause either.
holmgren would make a horrible GM…he already was horrible at it once with the seahawks his draft pick was probably was Jeremy Stevans…not a good sign
I agree that I would trade DJAX AND Battle for Marshall, but I guarantee coach Kevlar would not. Marhsall is going NO WHERE!!! I would like it if he did wear a niner uniform, but it is so unlikely that it isn’t even worth talking about.
ESPN’s John Clayton believes rookie Matt Moore will “probably” be the Panthers’ starting quarterback in Weeks 16 and 17.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen pointed out that Moore’s college coach, Mike Riley, gave both Derek Anderson and Moore glowing pre-draft reviews, but no one in the NFL believed him. While coaching the Chargers in 2000, Riley pushed to draft Tom Brady, but no one in the organization took him seriously.
Come on man….think niners stuff…even if that is really interesting.
I agree with Axegrinder Nolan has made to many mistakes I cant really see him coming back next year.
Niner Pro Bowlers
Patrick Willis
Nate Clements
Andy Lee
South Bend, you clearly know nothing about football with your argument that the Niners would be 14-0 had Gore run the ball at least twenty times every game. A team has to establish a passing game, or the opposing defense will simply pile eight men on the line every play. I mean, according to your logic, why not just run Gore on every play? Anyway, that’s why Gore has crappy yards/carry numbers this year. He had a good game on Saturday vs. the Bengals. Why? The Niners established a passing game; that’s why.
awwwwww jeah!!!! 14-0 baby on our way to 19-0
LOL your team needs some help to stay up with ours baby,,,,,,,,

TEDDY BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!
How many more games dose Smith need to start busting it out? I have news for you Smith lovers he has had three seasons and has consistently produces average numbers. Look at the other QB in NFL in the first season do extremly well (Romo, Jackson, Big Ben, etc..) the list goes on and on… As for Nolan “Players trust him” if you say so??…The Niners cannot pass up Marty Schottenheimer or Bill Cower if avaliable. Nolan had his chance he hired Hos in the first place you should take responsibility for that! Come on bringing in Trent Dilfer as a back up! Nolan needs help…
I think the ? mark stands for why is patriots190 the biggest fair weather fan on a niners website?
Alls i can say is to all the Nolan must goers out there…. Doesnt matter what you want, Nolan is goin no where and im glad of it.
Seems like every 2 or 3 years now were switching coaches, ever since mariucchi weve been jumping the gun on letting coaches go, i dont think they’ll make that mistake again this time.
Just give him his 2 more years and lets see what he’s got, if he doesnt get us into the playoffs by the end of his contract then sure let him go and lets start all over again.
As for Nolan goin for it on 4th down, no matter what was goin throught his mind or the OC’s mind, luckily for nolan and not so lucky for all the internet bloggers it really doesnt matter what you think. So what you have season tickets, it still doesnt matter one bit what you think, if your last name isnt York than your bitching means nothing.
Anyways, as a non fairweather fan, im stickin by the Niners through thick and thin, im the guy doin the less bitchin and more cheering and rooting for my team… no matter what.
If you cant stand by the niners like you did in the 80’s and 90’s when they were the best, stop bitching to nobody and… BECOME A PATS FAN.
Until then, ill be doing what any fan does best rooting for my team, standing by my team through thick and thin, not bitch to internet bloggers.

thanks for picking up the sarcasm Vince, the stat is we are 9-1 when frank runs the ball more than 20 times a game.
Holmgren will be a “god given” GM for us,well he can coach as well
Crazy Ricky Yall!!!
I don’t know what the problem is in it’s entirity, nobody does, but a swift solution and the best solution to fully stack and win, that I can see is not so hard, first off and I know everybody will bitch but… Please make Nolan the GM and the next best canidate FOR US is Steve Young, Promote Singeltary to head coach otherwise we will probably lose him to the Falcons and nobody would be as suitable FOR US to win right now as he is, demote Hostler back to QB’s coach and keep training him, keep Tollner around as an assistant’s assistant/mentor for another year, BRING in Zampese to become the OC, NO POLITICS, and too have complete control of the offensive side of the team, (salaries, contracts, ego’s and draft position be damned, Thomas Clayton does look good and why isn’t he doing KR), keep the same Offensive system, it is simple to learn and is varied enough to work and it is very good when ran and called properly, and with our first pick of the draft we select Colt Brennan, why, because, no he wont be availible to us in the second round especially if he does win the Sugar Bowl, Now we can have a real QB controversy. Hill vs. Smith vs. Brennan, you can’t say the Run’n shoot is gimmicky when nearly half the pass plays today in the NFL are derived or are cousins to it i.e. nearly half the Patriots and the Colts playbooks, and with our second pick we trade to the Bengals for Chad Johnson, and don’t say they wont let him go for a second even if we had to throw in a 4th or 5th to go along with it, even Jerry Rice would allow him to wear #80, it’d be worth it , then for the rest of the draft we either select the best player available or trade toward the next draft, in free agency we immedietly sign Lance Briggs as scheduled and pursue both Max Stark’s and Alan Faneca to rebuff our o-line, and for God sakes with the team under Mike Singletary we would convert back to the 4-3. Our D-lineman are used to 2 gapping, single gapping would almost be a vacation for them (pin your ears back and go Crash, Fire, Blitz, imagine Douglas, Franklin, Feilds and Sopoaga crashing on the OT’s in this league as the starting front four)and we would have the deepest core of linebackers in the league, and our outside linebackers we already have are slashes OLB/DE, with over 31 million in cap space next year this is easily attainable. I know the NFL is a business but winning brings prosperity and respect. Well this is what I have been thinking & talking about, what do you think???
“Please make Nolan the GM and the next best canidate FOR US is Steve Young, Promote Singeltary”
YOUR CRAZY…I do not understand what Nolan has done that is so great, that everyone wants him around so bad?
Look we lost out again! Parcells Vice President of Falcons http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3160597
