Update: Chronicle is retracting the Dr. York is stepping aside. So who knows what the hell is going on.
John York steps aside.
The 49ers made major changes to their front office structure Friday, hiring former A’s executive and Memphis Grizzlies President Andy Dolich as their new chief operating officer.
In addition, team owner John York is stepping aside from much of the day-to-day operation of the franchise, sources within the organization said, and will hand off those duties to son Jed, who has been taking a lead role in the 49ers’ negotiations for a new stadium in either Santa Clara or San Francisco.
The 49ers are planning a 1:30 p.m. announcement about the changes in the organization.

Cracks widen in Nolan regime
Even a full-scale earthquake couldn’t make the situation in San Francisco any shakier than it is at the moment. The way we hear it, the absolute last thing that the Niners’ ownership wants at present is to launch beleaguered head coach Mike Nolan and undergo another major front-office restructuring. But word is they just might not have a choice, with the fans and local media turning up the heat big-time in the wake of the latest highly public rift between Nolan and QB Alex Smith. In a Dec. 11 story in the San Jose Mercury News, Smith accused his head coach of trying to “undermine” him in the locker room. For the second time in the last couple of weeks, both Smith and Nolan publicly said they had healed their fragile relationship after meeting with one another, but team sources fear the damage in that relationship might be irreparable. In the meantime, cries for Nolan’s dismissal are mounting, and while it’s hard to know what exactly is going through the minds of John York and Denise DeBartolo York these days, we do know that they both pay very close attention to what’s being written in the local papers and talked about on the local airwaves day in and day out. Will the Yorks eventually cave in to growing public pressure? According to a growing number of sources close to the scene, it really is starting to look that way.

York did spend the $ this year we r in the top 5 teams in payroll right now. Everyone was on the Nolan bandwagon in the begining of the season even I was so I dont think this is an who owns the team thing as it is who is the coach. Nolan has really worn out his welcome here and its time for him to go bye bye. Bring in Parcells either as coach or as GM.

Smith’s contract is going to keep him there at least another year, but can anyone give me a reason why Dilfer is needed anymore? And remember, Hill’s index finger on his throwing hand is broken. I haven’t seen a Niner quarterback so cool in the pocket since Montana. Not comparing him to Montana, but the guy is cool. Like Montana.
This is the best, smoothest offense the Niners have had all year. Hill throws in places where the receivers can catch, and often in stride. Gore hasn’t been all that dominating, but at the end of the half those three yard gains were becoming eight yard gains. If the defense can keep track of those Bengal wide receivers they actually have a chance. I never thought I’d say that this year.
We need a pick on this series. That’s the ticket.
