Nolan’s Job on the Line?

nolan.pngThis isn’t the first time this has been brought up and certainly will not be the last. But in some circles they are saying that head coach Mike Nolan’s job is on the line. If the 49ers lose this weekend to Atlanta you can bet your ass this talk will heat up. Here is the latest from MSN Fox:

Is Mike Nolan coaching for his job in San Francisco?
This was supposed to be the year that the combination of good young talent and a weak NFC West made the 49ers a potential playoff team. But the 49ers aren’t getting to the postseason, and now there is actually talk in San Francisco that head coach Mike Nolan’s job could be on the line. The 49ers play the Falcons Sunday, and for as bad as the Atlanta offense has looked this year without Michael Vick at quarterback, it’s a lot better than the San Francisco offense has looked without Norv Turner calling the plays. Nolan chose Jim Hostler as Turner’s successor, and that decision has had disastrous consequences on the field. If the 49ers lose to the woeful Falcons Sunday, it could have disastrous consequences for Nolan’s job security, too.

dude i’ve been saying that after the seahawk debacle-might as well do it after this week and put in singletary as interim-then negotiations can begin with a proven head coach cowher

  2. samra says:

man its not nolans fault our o-line is the biggest disappointment…its sad to think that scott mccloughln said this was the best o-line he’s seen. If u look at the niners, rams, and jets all the offensive problems can be centered around the front 5 and they cant get their run on or give their qbs enough time to pass. I think its time to keep snyder permantly at LT replace smiley with baas, and move Mr. Fragile Jonas Jennings to Center where he played in Buffulo in order to give us a more physical inside and solid protection on the outside

  3. Ryan the 1st says:

I like that idea Samra, as for Tully Banta Nothing…SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND PLAY….you got paid, now just shut up and play because right now I am wondering if you are EVER going to pan out. Nolan’s job should be on the line if we lose to the Falcons…there is NO EXCUSE for that! IF we lose to the Falcons then we are hands down a top five pick team….THINK ABOUT THAT!!! Make the shifts in the o line….do what must be done, but I am NOT GOING TO ACCEPT, “Oh, we are making adjustments and no one is happy about it, but we are going to continue to change NOTHING, and oh yeah, we are going to continue to lose!” Make the changes or make your way out of town. The Chin and Schotty are waiting in the midst.

  4. razoreater says:

arizona states center looks good if baas is bust at that position

  5. Storm says:

Top 5 pick for the Patriots. Is Staley a top 5 pick. Nope. Bad move.

Boot Nolan, put in Singletary and let him build an Offensive coaching staff next year. Nolan does not have the same respect around the league as Singletary. With that respect he can get a good OC. This D could be a mid-teen D if the Offense was even in the low 20’s.

  6. Ramsey says:

I dont blame Nolan or Hostler. If we had of just kept Ken Dorsey we would have a better lead offense than we do with A Smith.

Seriously though, Alex Smith is NOT the future of the 49ers. We’d be better off bringing back Jeff Garcia than to waster ANOTHER year building Smith. Vince Young hasnt taken this long to be a decent QB among many others who have done well in their first couple of years.

If Nolan does in fact go, please give us Marty Schottenheimer so that we can use Gore to his full potential.

And please, give us a new QB. Leave Singletary alone and build on what we already have on defense, but please change our offense and our QB. Smith is an average QB at best and will never be anything more than that…. Average.

  7. Joe S. says:

What ever happened to Nolans preseason talk of letting Alex call his own plays with having Dilfer as his mentor

  8. razoreater says:

i disagree with ramsey, having said that colt brennan will be available in round 3 as insurance policy-very quick release and able to learn new system for a year

  9. Self Scientific says:

    Ken Doresy, what the fuck?

  10. AXEGRINDER says:

I know someone didn’t just say our offense would have been better with Ken Dorsey. If that guy is serious, what the fuck is right.

If Nolan doesn’t show shit the rest of the season, the job is Singletary’s to take. I really would not mind that. Then give the whole offensive coaching staff the ax, too. Then Alex Smith would have his 4th O.C. in 4 years and we’re giving the Greedy Pats our pick and everything will be just fucking great, right??????This whole shitty situation is just plain whack.

  11. ramsey you are a fuckin ediot, why the hell would u say dorsey over smith, ediots these days, damn. Yeah dorsey was a 1 round pick, right. I bet my hole bank account that alex smith will win a super bowl before Matt Lienard, vince young, brady quinn, or that fagg in denver Gay Cutler. Ramsey is the tight of person that will get shot if he says stupid shit like that, fuck out of the niner nation snitch! oh yeah my niners over the falcons by 10.

  12. 49ERZ says:

mabey the time change will help us out lol they get an extra hour to prepare on the road

  13. Mike says:

Ok first off to many people are jumping down on nolan way to fast. when it was just this past offseason alot of people were saying he was going to be a great coach for a long time. (thats analysts saying that shit too).
I won’t put all the blame on nolan. Hostler has to go he basically couldnt call a good game if he had to do it to survive. Can’t blame nolan completely on this though. When turner left no teams would give nolan a chance to steal there coordinators or other coaches b/c of how late it was in the offseason.
Id still give nolan another year.
As for alex smith. He has gotten better each year. This year he got hurt and missed a few games not his fault when oline can’t block anyone. Our wideouts don’t do a great job of getting open down field to open up the running game for gore. When there are 8-9 people in box gotta rely on wideouts to get open. Nothing Smith can do if theres no one open. would you rather have him force a throw and have it picked off.

Now i dont think smith is going to be a hall of fame QB by any means but i do feel he can be a good starter. To many people expect the world from this kid. ITS HIS 3RD FRIGIN YEAR. He has had to learn a new offense every season. THats new playbook new play calling schemes. NOT EASY TO DO. NOT TO MENTION PEOPLE SEEM TO FORGET HE’S STILL ONE OF THE YOUNGEST QBS IN THE LEAGUE. Most people his age are rookies not 3rd year starters. First year was a wash b/c team was terrible. last year he showed improvements. this year he isnt forcing the ball like he used to. give the kid a chance damn. to many people want to get this magical thing to happen to where all of a sudden team is 16-0. well it doesnt happen. it takes time. want to be like the pats are right now. they didnt do it overnight.
This is nolans 4th year. his coaching staff gets picked apart every season. Not much he can do when the talents in coaches are offered head coaching spots. Hopefully can get a better Offensive Co. in offseason. And yes it will be alex’s 4th offense in 4 years. but hopefully this one will know what the hell he’s doing.

  14. gee-ray says:

THIS IS THE DUMBEST THREAD EVER.. NOLAN IS DOING GREAT FOR OUR TEAM. STFU WITH THIS

  15. blurooster says:

With all of the mistakes someone has to go and it’s usually the coach. The guy sounds like he’s out of touch. He even tried a suggestion box, right? Companies usually use those to save money on a process, not to get ideas on how to run the company.

    It’s time for change.

  16. gee-ray says:

the only change we need is you fairweather fans to go hide in a hole NOW

  17. Jason says:

I think people are missing the point trying to make excuses for Nolan, the biggest thing about being a head coach is making changes in your line up to put the best players on the field, obviously this is a skill that Nolan does not have with the fact that players that have been underachieving all season long are still on the field. Yes you people are right to say that its the o-lines fault, but whos fault is it to keep those players in there? Guess what, that would be Nolan, if we lose today, Nolan needs to start lookin at packing his bags

  18. gee-ray says:

uh, where the fuck have you been. he has made changes to the line. wake up.

  19. doogan says:

they need to get rid of Nolan and A.Smith

  20. Ninaz says:

Its about fucking time York noticed that Nolan cant coach for shit. I have my doubts about Mike Singletary being the HC mainly because it would be his first year as niners HC. We have learned that getting coaches who have never been head coaches doesnt work out. Im saying make singetary DC and get someone with superbowl experience like Bill Cowher or Bill Walsh for HC.

  21. Ninaz says:

I mean Bill Parcells not Walsh “rest his soul”
