Holy Crap. What Just Happened?

Nov 25, 2007 38 Comments by Niner Pundit

The 49ers win their third of the year in overtime.

Neil Rackers did his best Jose Cortez/Owen Pochman impersonation by missing a chip shot, and the MVP of the year Andy Lee setup the game winning fumble for a touchdown. Holy crap this was one of the best 49er games I have seen in a long ass time. I’m speechless. The 49ers did not quit for pretty much five quarters made big plays when needed and for once the bounces went their way. Oh yeah and Frank Gore seems to be back.

Now we just have to win the next seven…okay I’m a little ahead of myself on that one.

    NINERS WIN!!!

  2. Self Scientific says:

What a good ass game, so does this mean it was just the play calling this whole time?

  3. gee-ray says:

No, it seemed like the same playcalling, just the players performed when needed. never been just the playcalling. imo

  4. Martin says:

OMG, I haven’t been so happy for weeks!!!
Of course, they should have played like this for a while now, but oh well, at this point I’ll take one win.
OTOH, if they would have done that against the Seahawks, we might even have had a chance to still get into the playoffs.

  5. Niner Pundit says:

Holy shit I just looked at the box score and Willis had 18 tackles….

  6. Andre says:

    YES!!!!!!!WHAT A GAME!!!!!

  7. Rob says:

Yeah, this is a great win and all. But, too bad it came after the season is all but lost. Come on guys, 8-8 is the absolute best we can hope for. At this point, I think it’s been proven that Nolan is just not the guy who will lead us to the Superbowl. And, we have no high draft pick to look forward to by losing this year, either. So, I say we need to keep losing so that Nolan will get fired and we can try to get someone who will help us finally get a freaking winning season. Bill Cowher will be available this offseason, after all…

  8. Niner Pundit says:

Rob…even though the majority will agree Nolan shouldn’t be back, you know he will be.

  9. SanDiegoNiners says:

it looks like that new OC assistant really helped. He actually made dilfer look like a decent qb, he might make alex smith look like manning.

  10. Jordan says:

This is the best I have felt in over 2 long months! Hurraaay, GO 49ers!

  11. Embarrasedninerfan says:

Wow, what a game ! I’m not sure how much credit goes to Tollner, but I think some has to. He called a good game, and got a MONSTER game from our boy Gore. Dilfer didn’t force anything, and took what the defense gave him. It was nice to see our pass rush show up for 2 consecutive weeks. I think with the right OC, I have said all along that we have the pieces in place, and yes, that does include Alex Smith. Dilfer is not Superman, he had good plays called for him. Nice to see D-jack continue to drop some easy passes, but on this day it don’t matter !! I’m not totally sold on Nolan back for next year, we have to see if this offence can keep it up for the rest of the season. If so, then yes, keep Nolan. Just get a good OC. Tollner for president !

  12. Ninerfan81 says:

Personally I think it has everything to do with the play calling. I think the team felt good about have Tollner up there in the booth and calls were good.

Execpt the 4th and 1 call on the Zona 27 in the fourth quarter. Still think we should’ve taken the FG.

Oh well, we’ll see next week how this confidence factors into our remaining games.

    Go Niners Go!!

  13. straighthate says:

This showed that decent playcalling and our offense could be at least average. Today was with Dilfer and an offense not used to getting first downs. In other words, an offense with no momentum was able to look like an NFL offense.

As for Willis, Jesus, what’s a single game record? Not saying 18 tackles is it, but that’s a pretty fucking decent game. And this kids a rookie. Only improvement out of him to come, to anchor our defense.

Now, maybe anyone with a .500 plus record on Madden calling our offense, and hell, could be an NFL team!

  14. JNova80 says:

YES! A win, finally. Dilfer looked good and Gore was great. The offense put up a lot of points, huh, I wonder why. But seriously, we need to carry this to next week, I will be at the game on our boy’s side of the field and sitting in the front row near the 50 yard line, so I really want a win next week.

  15. 49ERZ says:

great Win!…an how about Patrick Willis chasing down there WR to make that saving takle that ended up in a missed FG…an then we go on later to Win…Priceless

  16. Machiavelli says:

I think Tollner gave the team some self-confidence (there was still plenty of bad play-calling) and he helped push the team out of a rut. Honestly, although it was impossible to see, the offense HAS been playing better in a couple of the previous games (not including the debacle in Seattle). Tollner allowed the team to relax a bit and focus on execution.

  17. Big M says:

The playcalling was significantly better. It may not be obvious to many people, but play-calling is situational, and for the most part, the right calls were made. Yes, some calls were bad, but really, Tollner’s guidance helped create a rythm on offense and finally open up running lanes for Frank Gore. And I hope everyone acknowledges the improved play on the offensive line. There is actually a pocket now.

  18. 49ersfan77 says:

hell ya NINERS great win keep it up go NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Derek Zoolander says:

this is how we should have played every game!!!

  20. Derek Zoolander says:

nice win,now only if we can win a couple more we can have a strong offseason

  21. ninerfan says:

I love the win by DJAX sucks big time. He can’t catch, hold on to the ball, and looked terrible.
Anyway, it is good that we finally win a game.

  22. AXEGRINDER says:

This win should be attributed to IMPROVED playcalling and pure attitude on defense. If Tollner wasn’t in the booth, we would not have seen all those checkdown passes to Gore. Arizona was leaving the middle of the field open all day, and without Tollner, Hostler would have never see that shit. Hostler WILL NOT be here next season, guaranteed.

  23. ninaz says:

Well i loved the game but if a loss would of caused Nolans job so be it. I bet York will extend Nolans contract 5 yrs for this win. Also Djax sucks balls Mike Vick has better hands than him.

  24. R,Craig33 says:

Did we just beat the cardinals twice this season?

  25. samra says:

Vote to get Patrick Willis as ESPN’s NEXT Great athlete

  26. Ryan the 1st says:

Patrick Willis and Frank “The Bad Ass” Gore won this game for us. However, you DO HAVE TO GIVE CREDIT to the o line…they did an alright job. I wouldn’t say they were terrific, but they got the job done. However, Walt Harris deserves a MAJOR game ball and so does our defense….they really won the game.

  27. Ryan the 1st says:

ALSO, DJAX SUCKED IT UP BIG TIME….we need to start Lelie over him immediately. He had 5 receptions for 43 yards….god knows how many dropped passes (including one put in his numbers on the opening drive on third down), and a fumble. I don’t know what other evidence we need. DJAX needs to be benched we need to put lelie in his place or Jason Hill.

  28. Machiavelli says:

Darrel Jackson is still the worst starter on this team.

  29. sf49ers says:

FINALLY A WIN..IT TOOK A LONGTIME COMING..BUT A WIN IS A WIN.follow ups to come..!.AND MAN THE OFFENSE SHOWED UP..FRANK’S IS THE MAN-HE IS THE LT OF THE NINERS,HE GOES THE OFFENSE GOES..PAT WILLIS KEY TACKLE ON MOREY,REAL KEY..PAT FOR PRO-BOWL..AS FAR AS ALEX GOES,HE SHUD BE WORRIED..

  30. pintor98 says:

Patrick Willis is the MAN!!! If he doesn’t tackle that WR in OT we lose!! He had 18 tackles!!! The new OC really helped out. Yes, the OL did a good job most of the time. Great overall game.

  31. jd says:

FIRE NOLAN!!!!!!!! oh shit sorry just used to that after a niners game.

  32. TIM says:

FRANK HAD 20+ CARRIES AND WE WON.MAYBE DUMB ASS WILL LEARN FROM THIS.

  33. Shane says:

When Frank Gore rushes at least 18 times, we’re 3-0.

    Bet it’s a coincidence.

  34. Lowrance says:

I can see it now…another Beer commercial for the famous Arizona coach! “We blew it! We let them off the hook!” LMAO!
    Man O man…..
watching this game with the flu….
loving that I can finally feel passionate enough to scream at the screen again, because we had hope….
Screaming at VD to make some blocks!
Screaming at Willis to just fall on the damn ball!
    Screaming at brick hands Jackson!
    Screaming at Dilfer!
Screaming at our idiot for the 15yd personal foul!
Screaming at the refs for NOT calling the same on Bolin!
Screaming at the play calling not much more than once when Gore ran twice, then they threw to him in the flat…then again, when they throw a third down pass 5 yards short of the first down marker!

Then loving the fight it all our boys as somehow, some way…. Arizona misses a 32 yard field goal!
One more stupid penalty on the OTHER team….and a veteran holding the ball way too long in the end zone…..and what’s this?
    WE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Thank you Santa…. =)

  35. Ryan the 1st says:

AM I the only one on this website that believes that Banta Nothing has NOT lived up to his contract. Yeah, he jumped on top of a fumble to win the game yesterday, but he didn’t exactly wow me with his play. His isn’t having a good year and I am starting to wonder why we signed him because Parys Haralson is playing his position WAY BETTER than Banta Nothing. He should be worried with all of the playing time that Haralson is getting. OR MAYBE HE DOESN’T CARE BECAUSE HE ALREADY GOT HIS CONTRACT!!

  36. gil says:

Its about time! they give us something to feel good about…I have to give credit to our O-line they did an outstanding job…Dilfer had time to throw…Gore had lanes to run…and most of all we had only 3 penalties to AZ’s 10…its alot easier when you don’t have a 3rd and 20…As for Willis he should get the game ball for running down WR Morey…I love this kid, there is no quit in him…oaky and the play calling was good, I got to think that Tollner has made a difference, because we all know what Hos has done the last 8 weeks…

  37. loser says:

im really glad we got this win. now frank and the rest of the team can breathe a little. i hoped to rub this on the face of that fucking moron who thought gore was the next kevan barlow on 49ersfaithful

  38. unknown niner says:

We will improve so much if we get rid of Darrel “drops it” Jackson. If he could catch we probaly would score even more points and convert on third downs. Amazing Win.
