Strange Days

Going into this season, the San Francisco 49ers were pegged as division favorites. All seemed well. Quarterback Alex Smith finally showed evidence he’s capable of leading an offense. Tight end Vernon Davis stepped up as a leader as well as one of the best at his position. The defense looked dominant [...]
49ers: Jekyll and Hyde

The 49ers seemed to be like Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde last season. In this case, Jekyll is desireable while Mr.Hyde is as always self-destructive.
The O-Line Gains 654 lbs.

After allowing the league-worst 150 sacks over the past three seasons, the San Francisco 49ers finally addressed their biggest need.

ALEX SMITH OUT FOR SEASON? by Michael David Smith
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith is increasingly looking like he won’t be back on the field this season.
Daniel Brown of the Mercury News reports that rest hasn’t healed Smith’s separated right shoulder, and that doctors will evaluate the shoulder early next week, possibly recommending surgery to reattach ligaments near his collarbone. That surgery would require recovery time of 10 to 12 weeks.
“Obviously, you want to avoid [surgery], but if it had to be done, it’s not a huge, huge operation,” Smith said, per Brown.
Smith was hurt on September 30 when Seahawks defensive tackle Rocky Bernard sacked him. He returned but played badly four weeks later, and there has been talk ever since that he came back too soon. Smith now says he can’t throw a football and feels pain every time he lifts his arm.
The 23-year-old Smith was the first overall pick in the 2005 NFL draft. He has started 30 games for the 49ers, completing 54.4 percent of his passes, with 19 touchdowns and 31 interceptions
smith just go away your act belong in holywood.
good man just dont let smith comeback its true trent dilfer has shown better quarterback play against the cards than smith has ever played for us hes fucking garbage i been saying it since his rookie season but was hoping that maybe hell be better but this is ridiculous he was the number one fucking pick in hte 2005 draft and hasnt done shit thus far, take a look at arron rodgers the 2nd qb taken in that draft look at his stats playing against the cowboys, A GOOD DEFENSE, i promise you that the 49ers will not make the playoffs while alex smith is the starting qb and for that one idiot who said earlier that we should get a new hc and oc but lets keep smith your obviously retarded if nolan goes than smith has to go but i think nolan is acctually a pretty good coach he took a nothing team and put talent and morale in it and the first sign of things going wrong everyone gets on that lets fire nolan bullshit yea he fucke dup by hiring tollner but hes gonna get a new oc next year. hes stubborn but hes not a fucking idiot he made our defense great. and he was the one who drafted patrick willis whos leading the nfl in tackles right now. smith was injured and by coming back early thought he can be a peyton manning or tom brady by acting tough and playing through a injury, except the only difference is they can do better than smith if they only had one arm and he was completely healthy. smith is complete and utter garbage. you cant blame it on him that he sucks because its just how he plays, not good. but for the future of the 49ers and for the fans please get rid of fucking alex smith. if derek anderson is available next season id much rather get him.
yungjoe u must be very yung because u have no idea of what u are talking about
all the alex smith haters in this website all i can say is this when next season comes around and alex has us in the playoffs i just want you to remember i told you so this guy is good he needs a better line and wr’s
Dilfer did it with that same o-line and wr’s. What does that say?
I would like to see Dilfer do it two weeks in a row, and even then, will it be because of Tollner?
Goldrusher49, Frank Gore averaged 59.8 yards per game with the same o-line before this past game… your argument is pretty invalid. Anyone who knows football enough can see the offense wasn’t functioning before this past game, and it had nothing to do with Dilfer, who played horribly in previous games.
Thats not the same offensive line gold rush Mr. Glass isnt there and Bass is playing now so its different. Smith had 2 seconds to throw the ball.
I TIVO’d the NLF Reply they had of last week’s game and watched it yesterday…. Love that they shrink it down to 1.5 hours! Fun to watch the win again!
I, personally, haven’t given up on Alex. He showed me too much improvement last year with a good receiver, a clutch receiver, and a then decent offensive line, with Gore running. I just can’t judge quality with so many holes in our offense, and injuries….not to mention play calling..
as i watch this i cant help to notice that a change in the O-line and some help in the booth is makin all the difference, i hope we dont even bring jennings back next year and im glad smiley is going to walk. they have obviously been holding us down all year. with bass synder and staley in there gelling we are actually seeing holes and protection… this is awesome!!!
we need to get david baas in the game more if you see him at rg on frank’s 35 td run he sprang that whole play
I would like to see Baas in there as the center, and then if we pick up at least one more quality linemen in free agency (Fenaca) we should have a solid line for years to come.
PAY FANECA…it is in the niners best interest to pay Faneca! If they are willing to pay Larry Allen then all that “not willing to pay for guards” garbage is out the door!!! Put Staley at left tackle, Faneca at right guard, Baas at center, Smiley at right guard, and draft a right tackle then call it good. Also, we could try Mr. Glass at center….he DID play that position while he was a pro bowler for the Bills. WHY WE PUT HIM AT LEFT TACKLE IS BEYOND ME!!!
Excuse me…Faneca at left guard. Larry Allen IS GOING TO RETIRE!
We have enough cash to at least pay Faneca right? I know after this past season we don’t have much money left, but we should be able to get Faneca and at least one other free agent I would think. Then use the draft to get that tall WR we have all been waiting for.
Alex Smith-QB-49ers Dec. 2 – 9:40 am et
FOXSports.com’s John Czarnecki reports there’s a “good chance” the 49ers won’t pay Alex Smith his $8 million option bonus next March.
The option bonus would keep Smith under contract for 2009 and 2010. If the Niners don’t pay it, Smith’s 2008 base salary would be $2 million and he’d be in the final year of his contract. The former No. 1 pick will be re-evaluated next week to see whether he needs season ending shoulder surgery.

WOW, that is REALLY big news for the niners! Now we need to realize what direction they will go if we do let him go! However, if he blows up next year we will be screwed for treating him this way….even though he clearly has EARNED his money.
excuse me….hasn’t earned his money.
What the hell is NOlan thinking by not challenging that fumble. It was clearly a fumble.
looks like our D is playing without a clue.
so much for tha. back to losing. Disgusting
I cant believe this shit. Where the fuck was Dilfer throwing that ball? Unbelievable.
another fucking blowout! WE Suck! Hey at least Patrick Willis has 8 tackles already in the first half!
how did we become a laughing stuck of the nfl
the great niners now baby niners what shame.
these team can never recover and be average.
Holy Shit we are coming back! It was 17-0 at halftime. Now its 17-14! WE only need a field goal to tie!

Nevermind
