Early Preview of Hostler and Tollner in the Booth

Here is a sneak peek of the conversation that will go on between Ted Tollner and Jim Hostler this weekend in Arizona.
- Hostler: Ted, it’s 3rd and 9 at our own 9. I’m thinking we run a shotgun draw with Moran Norris.
- Tollner: Interesting, but I notice Brian Gilmore hasn’t seen any action yet. Let’s run the wide receiver screen pass here.
- Hostler: Good call. I’m glad you’re here.
(3 minutes later)
- Tollner: Okay the defense just gave up seven and with Hicks returning we should have the ball at our own 30. So what is your next play.
- Hostler: Frank up the middle.
- Tollner: Couldn’t have said it better.
- Hostler: Okay 2nd and 9. I’m thinking a reverse to Gilmore.
- Tollner: Go for it. I really like Gilmore and if he could have escaped those 7 defenders in the backfield last series he could have scored.
- Hostler: Damn, I thought he was gonna break it.
- Tollner: Can’t win them all. Okay it’s now 3rd and 17. What do you think?
- Hostler: I’m thinking a shotgun draw to Maurice Hicks. I really believe we’ll fool the defense and pick up at least 7 yards. That will give Andy Lee the opportunity to put it inside the 20.
- Tollner: Yes, gotta think about your Pro Bowl punter…we really need to pad his stats.
(7 minutes later)
- Hostler: Cool, the defense held them to 3. I’m thinking right out of the gates a run up the middle with Frank
- Tollner: How about the deep ball to Jackson, he is steady and has great hands.
- Hostler: Will do. This should be automatic seven.
- Tollner: Crap, he dropped it. Sun must have been in his eyes. 2nd and 10. I’d pass to Vernon Davis here.
- Hostler: I don’t know. I like it when Davis blocks. Yes he has the ability to break open a play, but he serves us better as a blocker. I was thinking of a screen pass to Gore.
- Tollner: You’re right, call it in.
- Hostler: Damn, false start. 2nd and 20. Shotgun draw again?
- Tollner: Yes.
- Hostler: Tough break, but hey Gore got at least 10.
- Tollner: We got them right where we want them. 3rd and 10. Let’s throw a 6 yard out to Battle. He should be able to pick up the other 4.

For me im against it him and Dwight Clark put us in salary cap hell and they also had some very awful draft picks. Policy was good wen he had Eddie D’s money and wen he didnt it was hard. I dont think anybody in Cleveland would want him back. This team needs a face I think Bill Parcells would be perfect. Could you imagine ESPN would love us again.

Ok, seriously, is everyone on this site 12 years old ??? ” LETS GET JERRY RICE AND STEVE YOUNG TO OWN THE TEAM “….Yeah, ok ! And right after that, we’ll trade Alex Smith straight up for Tom Brady, and D-Jack for Randy Moss ! Seriously, shut up !!
Alex is not the problem, he is part of our future. He has a terrible o-line, and because of that, no running game to help out. It also doesn’t help when he should not have tried to come back from the injury and look terrible doing it. And to top it off, when he does make nice toss, D-Jack or Battle drop it ! We saw glimpses of what Smith can do last year with the right OC. Get a new GM, who will hire ther right HC and he in turn will hire the RIGHT OC. We have the right pieces in place with Gore, Davis, and yes, Smith. We will probably pursue someone like Bryant Johnson for WR next season. On Defence, we’re ok. Just on the field too long. A normal offence will take care of that. Seriously, just have patience. I think that the expectations for this years team were waaay too high. I admit, I’m disappointed too, but it will turn around for ‘08.

Think Nolan is gonna get one more season to prove himself. b/c until this season he was looking pretty good as a coach. Defensively were fine. Now if team brings in a REAL GM then thats less Nolan has to do. AND THE TEAM BRINGS IN A REAL OC because the one we got now i could probably do better play calling then. actually most people could probably do better play calling then hostler. Figure might as well start rumor mill going with callahan. just got fired from nebraska and it wasnt for a lack of putting points on the board it was the fact he couldn’t get a def built there. Might not be a bad option. Other options are def. out there though. When people bring up ideas try to atleast make it realistic.
I’m tired of reading bring in cowher or parcells. Cowher wouldnt come to the west coast. he’s an east coast guy who’s daughter goes to princeton and is only a sophomore there. He visits her all the time. Real nice guy in person though.

DC is def doing his job an was right choice. which nolan did choose him. so gotta give him credit for that one atleast.

I remember when there were more football-knowledgable posters on this site. I am amazed that Alex Smith is getting blamed for the offensive struggles. The offensive line is playing horribly, the receivers are dropping balls, the running game doesn’t work, yet people blame Smith for playing poorly with a separated shoulder. I think the problem might be that Erickson stayed, for the most part, pretty unbiased when he was running the site. I might be wrong, but I think someone else is now. I have noticed that this site has become more critical than informative, and the influence is just bad for fan support. I don’t know how many fans visit this site daily, but I’m sure it makes a significant impact and the fans’ opinion of the team. Anyways, I think this post was pretty funny, but there needs to be a better effort to get all of the news out to the fans on a more consistent basis so that they can form their own opinions. There are 2 sides to every story, so it would be nice for people to be able to come here and get both of them.
Blame Alex Smith……..
Remember, I almost lead us to a victory over the Pats in the same year they won the Super Bowl.

Much props to Dilfer. Ive been trying to tell all of you, Smith sucks and it shows. As average as Dilfer is as a QB he is leaps and bounds better now than Smith will ever be.
