Jesus H. Christ, This Offense Really Sucks

Not that it should come as a surprise after 7 weeks, but Christ this offense is bad and the defense didn’t help out that much. This week not sure if it is more Dilfer or what, but if Smith were in there the game would certainly be closer. Mainly because Dilfer has contributed to three turnovers and 21 or 24 points off. It’s one of those. I can’t remember for the life of me when the defense decided to hold the Giants to a field goal.
One plus, besides Ashley Lelie finally getting the opportunity to show that he can help this team by going deep is that the 49ers have a season high for offensive yards during this game…I think with about 240.
One thing to look forward to after these past two games, it can’t get any worse. Also when Smith finally comes back he’ll look like John Elway after Dilfer’s performances.

1. How about Dilfer. I swear the niners would have had this one if ALEX SMITH played. Dilfer and the penalties killed the Niners. The most wins the niners can get now is 8. No playoffs this year. At least they attempted to get the ball to lelie. This sucks though. The patriots are going to have a great EARLY first round draft pick from us. Maybe five years from now the niners will ACTUALLY have a WINNING season. Please make dilfer third string if he is useful for teaching, but don’t let him start EVER AGAIN!!!! This season was over when Manny Lawson went DOWN. WE will be lucky if we get back to our 7-9 record. Good news though Cardinals lost 21-19

I don’t know why it took this long to get Lelie in.
I don’t know why Hill didn’t play the 2nd half.
I don’t know why there have been NO changes on the line.
I don’t know why they haven’t worked on audibles and hot routes on blitzes.
All of these problems are on the coaching staff.
There is going to be some major upheaval this offseason, I can’t imagine Allen or Dilfer will be back as players, Smith should no longer be a starter, BY will probably retire ( the defensive line still needs a lot of work ).
Everyone associated to Nolan is going to be on the hot seat by association. The only person who is free from the hot seat right now on the coaching staff is McCarthy.
I consider all fault of the turnovers on Crappy Ass Trent Dilfer….cause even on the Frank Gore fumble Trent was reaching and leaning to hand it to him cause he was outta place so was actually a bad exchange on Dilfers part…..how bout the 24 points off turnovers????? take 24 away from the Giants score an look who wins…..Ive said it time &time again this Guy Sucks so Bad…I knew the moment they named him the starter that we were doomed ……..get the senior citzen QB outta there an put Alex Back in Now!!!!!!!!

Actually in the 4th qtr they did put in Bass and Snyder, so maybe that is a sign of things to come, because the o-line was just pathetic once again…..

this will contiue to happen to us untill we fix the oline. I dont care who we have in the game at QB or in the wideout postion if he does not have time to throw then oh well. I been a 49er fan since i can remember and i hate looking at our team like this. Im really starting to think about next year or just start thinking about the draft and the offseason. In the late third quarter they took out jonas jennings and justin smiley and put in adam snyder and david Baas. When adam and baas were in Dilfer didn’t have nearly as much pressure than before. only mistake they made was the one penalty on baas.
I actually thought the offense played a lot better. They were moving down the field with short passes and they had some deep threats. Keep in mind that Gore was limping, Dilfer was throwing, and the Giants D-Line are trying to set the NFL sack record halfway through the season. The 9ers have played 3 great defenses in their last 4 games (Steelers, Ravens, Giants) and the Seahawks had an excellent gameplan. The 49ers offense showed a lot of improvement. I think they could actually start putting some games together now (especially once Alex Smith comes in). By the way, I felt that Hostler did a great job playcalling this time (the problems were with pre-snap O-line adjustments to the blitzes and horrible reads by Dilfer,not the plays) and I congratulate him.
More worrisome was the defense which had serious run stopping issues. I was also disapointed that the defense didn’t create more turnovers. They need to be creating at least 2 turnovers a game if they want to have a chance. Against Eli, they should have had 3. I know the Giants O-line is good, but they needed to create more pressure, especially since Eli will panic if you get near him. I was really disappointed with Banta-Cain, Douglas, and Young (was he even playing?).
The Giants were wise to pick out the 49ers D weaknesses: nobody to cover the TE or RB in the flat (missing Lawson) and the run straight down the 3 man line. If the defense wants to be elite it needs to fix these problems. I would suggest moving Keith Lewis to LB.

Its so funny, cause after that 80 yard touchdown drive, i actually had some faith in Dilfer, boy was i wrong.
I feel bad for Frank Gore the o-line is terrible, I hope he gets traded to a team that can actually block for him and he can put his amazing talent to use!
my quick points:
- where the hell has lelie been and why haven’t we played him before? he makes more plays today if we had a half decent qb throwing to him.
- the ol looked much better with baas and snyder in there so why haven’t they seen more time considering the rushing yard totals?
- jim hostler needs to be fired now. he single handedly is throwing away our season. i mean, what’s the deal with our new offensive philosophy? are we a pass team now? do we forget about the run? do we even fucking try to establish the fucking god damn run?!
- the penalties can be attributed to poor execution and more importantly poor coaching. the penalties killed us today.
- i know vernon has dropped a few but you still have to go to him. you still have to include him in the plays.
this team easily could have won this game without the defensive touchdowns, turnovers and stupid penalties. this is an embarrassing loss.

I agree partly with Axegrinder. Vernon Davis looks like tarzan but plays like Jane. No disrespect to the Janes, but I think he is a bust. The offense pretty much beat themselves up on every play with penalties. Other team should just do an all out blitz on every play and we will start punting on 2nd down. When Alex is playing bad, we cry to have Dilfer in to replace the first round draft pick. Now Dilfer is playing and we cry to have Alex back. I think this whole team sucks except Patrick Willis and Nate Clements. Not to forget Andy Lee. Every year is the same ole shit. We look good on one game and then lose ten straight. Is it the coach? Is it the player? Is it the owner? Is it the fan?
Whatever it is, please turn this around. I am sick of this embarrassing team. Every sunday we look like fools on the field. We might as well play the practice squad. Sorry for the negative opinion. Nate clemens did not do jack today so i dont know why u even mentioning his name the only good players on this team this season has been Willis, Battle, and Andy Lee. How Fuckin embarrising, they cut the game in the bigging part of the 4th quarter because they said it wasnt a competitive game. Now i just gotta pray to have a nother chance to watch another niner game in Souther Cal.

The reason why I mentioned Nate was that he has been consistent. Any defensive player that plays hard to get off the field on 4th down will start to loose faith in playing to see that the Offense will give the ball back ASAP to the opponent. I just read that Gore said that the Offense lack trust on the new OC and the defense is getting burnt out. I really hate Norv for screwing us over. I hope that SD sucks this year and many years to come as long as Norv is still the HC.

You guys give Dilfer so much shit but when he completes a pass its a penalty on the oline. And he had so much pressure if alex smith was in there the outcome wouldnt of had been so different. Our dline was putting no pressure on eli.
The problem with the lack of pass rush can be attributed to our lack of offense. If the D is playing with a lead, which I can’t remember when, and I mean real lead of 14 pts or more, then you can take some chances and blitz more.
If we blitz at the beginning too much then a guy like Drew Brese can burn you.
Besides the obvious yesterday I’m concerned over the lack of stopping the run. Sometimes, like most of you, I’m very confused with the coaching decisions.
I’ve said it before on this board that Hostler truely didn’t know what to do with Lelie until he was forced in to it.
I can tell you this that if Norv was here he would’ve had a field day with using Lelie.

I will give props to our newest rookie right tackle. Most of the afternoon he did very well left alone on Strahan. Most other teams double him. And his penalty? BS. He pancaked that guy fair and square! Don’t call a penalty unless you actually see the foul!!!

lottie901, why do you want to switch to the 4-3? If our offense would have been better we could have been a top 10 or 15 defense. Stay with the 34. With the 34 we have more LB’s on the roster to help on special teams, with the 43 we have less LB’s and more slow DT and DE. Trust me the 34 is better. Just watch next year with a better offense you will se what Im talking about.

I am not going to go off about Mario Manningham, but if I HAD to guess who we were going to get IF THE DRAFT started tomorrow I would say the niners would take him. This isn’t Kipers board, but here is where Scouts Inc has the talent ranked right now. Keep in mind they have players like Lauranitus who have said they plan to come back for their senior year.
