Update: 03.05.07 — According to Matt Maiocco, the 49ers are not seriously considering spending big money on Joey Porter. They are not showing a lot of interest in him at this point.

03.04.07 — The North County Times (San Diego) is reporting that according to sources who spoke with Porter on Friday. The Bakersfield native expects to visit with San Francisco in coming days.

03.03.07 – KGET.com has a news article on their site talking about free agent Joey Porter looking for a new team. Porter is from Bakersfield, which is about 4 hours from San Francisco, and an even shorter flight. Well the article mentions that landing possibilities for Porter are the 49ers and the Chargers. Here is what Porter had to say in response to those two places.
“Those are teams I would definitely not say no to.”
Oh and by the way, I’m not sure the Chargers have that much cap room available to land Porter. So Nolan if you are reading this make him an offer.

i think we should get porter resign gore get maybe one or two more role players in free agency then draft the rest…we will give our rookies a roster spot if we draft them and thats ten picks..which means that people are definately gonna get cut off the bottom of the roster which like they always said was the plan and they are sticking to it

i dont think porter will sign a two year deal…he will want to sign somewhere that he can finish his career at…4-5 year deal plus we want him longer than 2 yrs anyways he is great…

i think our big spending is done. Nolan said before the FA period began, we are looking for 5-7 new starters for defense. so far we have 2. Porter is nice, but im not 100% that we will sign him.

I like Porter in the LB core, but I just keep thinking about all that trash he spoke before the Super Bowl and he didn’t show up. Maybe just a bad day at the office. If we get Willis in the draft we will not be thinking of Porter or Thomas in the future. I’m not sure how the contracts were structured when we were in bondage for the past years, but I do not want to feel that again.

So we need to get Maiocco on the phone or at least the persons who have the power to do so should give him a call and find out how serious the niners are in pursuing Porter or Stallworth. I say this because we could use another player in FA if we have that much space left and there is STILL some quality left to be had.

Well I just think that we should just keep our 1st and 2nd round draft picks for ourselves, and then trade the rest of them to the Raiders for the first overall, Derrick Burgess and just cherry pick a second person from them just to complete the trade. then we can just take Calvin Johnson with the first overall, then Ryan Kalil with the eleventh overall and move him to Right Tackle, and then we can just pick whomever with our 2nd round pick. The deal would be greatly in both teams favor. We’d be set for a championship run now and the next few years to come, and the Raiders can re-start their rebuild phase out great by having around 19 picks total in this next draft.
And if we do sign Joey Porter it should only be a one year trial run, he is a handful.

the last two posts up there for Big M were a fake, probably the same guy who did it to Baaqi… anyways, Ryan the 1st, I don’t see us going too hard after Stallworth because he’s a speed guy and we just got that in Lelie. If you were talking about Jerry Porter, then I think he could be an ideal fit, but it won’t happen. He’ll stay a Raider. But Joey Porter would be an excellent fit in our defense. The only issue I can see is his asking price. Nolan might not want to invest so much in a guy who will be turning 30 this year. That was probably the reason Nate Clements was the priority over Adalius.

Harris should fall far enough for our third…we might be able to get Blaylock to solve the KWAME PROBLEM. Unless a quality receiver or a quality front seven defensive player falls to us like Woodley or Spencer we should look to solve the Kwame problem this draft…it would solve a lot of offensive headaches.
We need to get rid of Kwame. he has no upside. three years and he has stunk for three years. no improvement at all. Synder is better than Kwame. We really need to address the oline situation. L. Allen will not be around for a while. jennings is injury prone. Heitman or Bass are not true centers.
with the first roundr we should draft Patrick Willis, we shoulda done it last year with Demeco Ryans who nolan loved as much as he loves Willis, then wit the 2nd pick we should get Justin Harrel or Ray McDonald

Hey guys…I am outta here until Friday….please keep the information fresh on this website and pray that Joey Porter comes to us FIRST instead of the Dolphins or Cowboys. It has been rumored that they both want PORTER REALLY BAD. Also, the AFC North and East want him really bad as well. Aaron Ross would be a horrible pick for many reasons. I go to UT and watched him play all the time. The only reason he won the Thorpe award is because he goes for the big play every single down, meaning all he cares about are INT’s, forced fumbles, big hits, etc. He can’t cover worth a damn and gives way too big of a cushion for receivers to catch and gain about 5 yards before he makes the tackle. He will not be good in the NFL, especially because of the new rules that were implemented a few years ago that give WR’s an advantage against DB’s. Aaron Ross = Mike Rumph
Also, he gives up more big plays than he makes. Did you watch any games this season and see how awful UT’s secondary was?
