Ashley Lelie a Niner
Update: Sorry been away for a bit, but it’s official Lelie has signed a two year deal with the 49ers. The deal is worth $4.3 million contract with a $2 million signing bonus and $3.2 million in the first year. With incentives, the deal can max out at $6 million over the two years.

Profootballtalk ,who so far this free agency period has been pretty spot on with their reporting, is saying the free agent receiver Ashley Lelie is expected to sign a deal within the next couple days. They are reporting that the frontrunners are the Texans and 49ers. It should also be noted that last year the 49ers did try and trade for Lelie, but did not want to give up what the Broncos were asking. I could see this happening mainly because the 49ers tried trading for Clements last season and look where he is now.

We need Stallworth and we need him now!!! If we get Stallworth, the niners will have two legit #2 receivers in Dante and Ashley Lelie and a soon to be good # 2 Battle. Thats 3 good solid receivers. Lets keep in mind, Lelie underachieved in Atlanta, but what receivers thrive with Michel Vick as QB? name me one. He was a good receiver in Denver. Now Stallworth, this is for the doubters ( aka justin ) Stallworth was having a Pro bowl year before he and Mcnabb got injured. He was having monster games. Now imagine him thriving with two other decent receivers, a freak of a tight end in The Duke and dont forget HARDCORE FRANK GORE!!! We will be in a better position than last year.

We need someone with SURE HANDS, guys. Davis is the focal point, Lelie is our speedster, Battle’s good for gimmick plays… we need someone who’s CLUTCH. That is NOT Stallworth. He’d be a colossal waste of money now, on top of signing Lelie. They’re too similar.

The problem, as we understand it, is that the interested teams are at a level well below Stallworth’s expectations. And there likely won’t be any visits until someone gets closer to Stallworth’s price — or Stallworth’s price comes down.

You know it is plausible that the 49ers could trade down to #3 and get CJ if he’s still there. Many analysts are saying that if the Raiders pass him, the Lions are never going to draft ANOTHER WR and Cleveland has other needs. The Bucs would take him without a question, but if the 9ers used a few of their 10 picks plus some more for next year, it could happen (especially since Cleveland will probably be looking for a trade and just wait for Brady Quinn or Marshawn Lynch to come to them…with the 11th pick?). Should they? It’s a risk and it may cost them a handful of picks they could use to build a team around. Rarely have teams that traded a lot of picks for one high pick been the benificiary. I think the 9ers would be better by just holding out a #11 and using a couple of their later picks to trade into the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

…to continue…I must say, it is becoming less likely that the 9ers will stay at #11…there isn’t that much for them. Either they trade up and get a DE like Adams or Anderson, or even CJ, or they trade down and get a LB like Willis/Timmons/Spencer or even a WR like Jarret or Bowe. We shall see. If it was me, I would trade down, take Willis…get maybe a high 2nd round pick or two (with some of my other picks) and really clean up with solid backup players for the future, especially for the O and D line.
wow Greg I apologize. John Clayton has just reported that the Lions no longer have a serious interest in Joe Thomas, and Adrian Peterson due to their recent free agent signings. Their only other option would be Quinn who could be drafted a little later. They might be looking to trade the pick. There is a slight chance that we could trade up. But it is SLIGHT.

I’m not saying stallworth will not produce in San Fran, but he was not the number one receiver in new orleans. He just happened to be the # 1 receiver in philly when he was healthy. To be honest that is not saying much considering McNabb and Garcia spread the ball pretty evenly. You would expect for Stallworth to have big numbers in Philly he’s the deep threat as we say. Bottom line we need Joey Porter to give us that Nasty back. I don’t no if we have been hurt so bad by the A.T. deal our memory has mistakened us, but we need a O-lineman. DO NOT FORGET THE KWAME HARRIS HIGHLIGHTS. WE WOULD IMPROVE 2 TO 3 GAMES ALONE IF WE HAD SOMEONE SOLID. The key is time back there for Alex. I don’t care if we had chad johnson and steve smith with no time no playoffs. Remember were not the only team getting better.
