Ashley Lelie a Niner

a-lelie.pngUpdate: Sorry been away for a bit, but it’s official Lelie has signed a two year deal with the 49ers. The deal is worth $4.3 million contract with a $2 million signing bonus and $3.2 million in the first year. With incentives, the deal can max out at $6 million over the two years.

*****
Profootballtalk ,who so far this free agency period has been pretty spot on with their reporting, is saying the free agent receiver Ashley Lelie is expected to sign a deal within the next couple days. They are reporting that the frontrunners are the Texans and 49ers. It should also be noted that last year the 49ers did try and trade for Lelie, but did not want to give up what the Broncos were asking. I could see this happening mainly because the 49ers tried trading for Clements last season and look where he is now.

  1. GREG says:

rams signed bennett for 6 yrs 30 million that is way to much for him good for them fucking retards…i like him but that is way to much lelie was a way better value good move nolan and co.

  2. tsimsniner says:

Any word on Cato June ? he’s from Cali. Also Brian Simmons he’s a good player. Not saying not to sign Porter. How do you guys feel about adding either one of these players to the team ?

  3. eddie says:

we got some good new players now.i just hope our new offensive coaching staff can get the players in the end zone this year.your right greg that is way to much for benett.i hope we get some offensive line help along with a pass rusher in the draft now.but we still have time in free agentcy to get more help.

  4. Lowrance says:

Someone mentioned this on another thread, and I thought it was a very good idea. Why do you think Nolan won’t keep Johnson at Tight End, and maybe move Davis into the slot or another receiver?
We need to put his speed to good use in the open.
    …just a thought…

  5. GREG says:

204 comments erickson are you alright do you want us to send you an ambulance…worried about you buddy..lol

  6. tsimsniner says:

Lawrence that would be beautiful. Let’s call Nolan and ask him.

  7. Straighthate says:

Lawrance, I live down in San Diego so I see a bunch of Charger games. I’m not too worried about the Niner offense without a true #1, because if you saw what the Charger offense could do when they didn’t even have a receiver that would start on any other team, but they had Gates and Tomlinson, they still moved the ball. If the Niners are creative with Davis, they can get by without a dominating receiver.

I do think though with Davis’ emphasis on blocking he’ll be a much more rounded tight end this year, but sending him in motion or out in the slot will open up a lot with his speed and size.

  8. Scott says:

Just was thinking about it i think this is the best WR for the the 9ers and the offense we run. Ashley’s worst yards per catch season was 15 yards, and his best was 20 yards a catch. (THAT MEANS A TON OF DEEP BOMBS ARE THROWN TO HIM AND ONLY HALF THE TIME HE CATHCES THEM BECAUSE HE ONLY GETS AROUND 50 RECEPTIONS A YEAR). Do you realize how that fucks up the D-fense on the other side trying to stop GORE and put 8 in the box. The VD, GORE, LELIE is the best combo for the type of Offense the 9ers run.

  9. Randy says:

No. Having an extra “DECENT” WR will be better. Whether it be a draft pick or Donte Stallworth, we still need 1 more decent WR. We have the worst WR corp in the league as of right now. So don’t get your hopes up with Lelie being our #1.

  10. Jeff says:

Ok…Lelie can do what Bryant did (and without the off-field stuff). We now need to start thinking about a back-up for Frank Gore (prone to injuries). How about Musa Smith (ravens)?

  11. Straighthate says:

I haven’t heard too much about what was said when they released Bryant. Any chance he’ll just be resigned?

And Jeff, I agree with you. We need a legit back up for Gore’s knees.

  12. tsimsniner says:

Your right Jeff. Although I think we will handle that in the draft.

  13. MiKeRoBiNsOn24 says:

Mike Robinson is the answer man!!!!

  14. GREG says:

robinson is good but even me being a fan of robinson if gore went down for the season robinson could not take all those snaps he is good short yardage back for tough yards….i would love to get michael bush in the third but i dont think he will slip that far…dont pick up a fa we can draft that position…build through draft supplement through fa…have to bring in our own guys especially with eight picks in first four rounds

  15. eddie says:

i feel that the 49ers need to move around mike robinson, like the steelers used kordel steward, line him up at quarterback, runningback and wide receiver since every one thinks we need one(wide receiver.

  16. Daniel says:

Well Some people like this and others dont but it doesnt matter
because he’s ours and i agree with what jeff said about how ashley will do what antiono did just without the drama i dont see him as a number 1 guy at all but there should be a good postion battle against him and Arnaz for the number 2 wide reciver postion.

  17. GREG says:

does anyone have an accurate cap room # that we have left i would greatly appreciate it thanks

  18. tsimsniner says:

Robinson has talent. I just don’t think were using him properly. Hopefully this will be a better year for him.

  19. Forrest says:

Yo, Lelie is a Niner. Yay Ashlie!!

  20. eddie says:

thanks tsimsniner, thats what i was trying to say in my last statement.

  21. bubble boy says:

fffiiifty dolla………ffffiffffty dolla…greg.i dont know how much eather.

  22. jesus says:

    220 comments damm thats alot.

  23. ninerfan4life says:

I CAN LIVE WITH THE LELIE DEAL ONLY BECAUSE WE CUT BRYANT! HOWEVER, THIS POSITION IS IN NEED OF A SERIOUS UPGRADE. LELEIE IS A SOLID # 3 AT BEST!

  24. PrimeTime says:

nah if he comes out and plays like he did in denver he is #2 or maybe even #1….im not so sure that atlanta had the right coaching staff for him….that wasnt a good fit for him…Jerry Sullivan will definately mature him like he’s done all our receivers here

  25. Straighthate says:

his success in atlanta had nothing to do with the coaches. odd, every reaceiver in atlanta’s been a bust. how much help are they gonna get at wideout for vick before they realize the problem is vick. i hope they do trade up for johnson. maybe people will realize not every receiver can be a bust, and vick’s the one fucking things up there.

  26. J-one says:

I love bein a 9er right about know!! Jus gettin Clemens is BIG AND YES the niners WILL sign Joey Porter trust me!! He is a Bakersfield boy an would love to play around the corner from home, not to mention we got major $$$ to throw his way to bring that SWAGGER to the RED AN GOLD!!!

  27. J-one says:

ANYONE have news on the uni’s for next year? The bright red sure would look good from now on!! will they switch back?

  28. J-one says:

ANYONE have news on the uni’s for next year? The bright red sure would look good from now on!! will they switch back?

  29. Ryan says:

last I heard we were switching back

  30. imfasterthanur says:

regarding the uniforms, If Im not mistaken, Mike Nolan and company would like to change back to the throwback uniforms but, for some odd reason, the policy takes 2 years before any changes can be made.

I remember reading that on 49ers.com during the season; but i could be wrong.

  31. johnstone says:

    we are in trouble now…

  32. Goresthashit says:

I like this move. he runs a 4.3 40 and is 6-3. dont forget he was 19th overall selection in 2003. he has just played with terrbile o-fences in Denver and Atlanta. He could be a great fit.

  33. BIGBIG says:

denvers offense wasnt horrible when lelie was there

  34. MiKeRoBiNsOn24 says:

mike robinson could be a star on this team: running, pashing, catching, returning, etc…

  35. ll24ezt says:

    he aint worth it

  36. NickDSlick says:

Lelie is a great pick up. He has size and the speed to stretch the field. Dont forget he was once a 1st round talent when he was drafted by the broncos and had a 1000 yard season before the broncos aquired javon walker. He wants to be a top reciever, so he went to Atlanta and we all know about Vicks arm, it comes second to his legs and the Falcons did not have a very threatening passing attack. I think this is a steal and he could turn out like Anquain Boldin when Sullivan is done with him. He can be the top guy, espessially if him and Smith build some chemistry. Good job Niners, maybe for the first time in 4 years when i tell my friends and family im watching the game i wont have to refer to them as “My god damn niners”

  37. flaw says:

does this guy block well in the run game though??
