The Day After: Sweepness in Seattle

I woke up this morning and had to turn on ESPNews to see if what I witnessed last night was all a dream. After I saw the highlights of the defense stopping the Hawks on 4th and 1, the interceptions, Gore running mad, and Smith throwing for two and rushing for one. I realized that it actually happened. The 49ers went into Seattle and walked away with their brooms swinging. This season has toyed with my emotions so many times and knowing that the playoffs are still a long shot, it was sweet knowing that the 49ers swept the Seahawks.

Before I hand out the praise I want to mention something that has been lost in all the excitement. That being the loss of Eric Heitmann. Heitmann broke his fibula last night and he was the one piece on the line that has been consistant all season. The loss of Heitmann really hurts and here’s to hoping that Wragge or Baas step up and fill the void.

- Alex Smith: Smith was trashed all week in the media and for three quarters continued to deserve the trashing, but for 30 seconds in the third and the entire fourth quarter he turned that around. Not since the Giants playoff comeback have we witnessed such a performance.

- Frank Gore: 1491. Currently leading the league in rushing and breaking 49ers rushing records left and right. If there is one offensive player in the league that owns a defense, it is Frank Gore owning the Seahawks with a total of 356 yards. Frank is Hardgore.

- Arnaz Battle: The best receiver on the team. He catches everything thrown his way and his 54 yard diving catch was the turning point in the game. Oh yeah and he has one of the best websites on the internet.

- Keith Lewis: He was all over the field last night. From stopping Shaun Alexander in key situations to leveling Deion Branch late in the game. Lewis gets one of the defensive player of the game honors. Oh yeah and he had a blocked punt again.

- Vernon Davis: The guy is finally showing why he was number six overall. He’s making key blocks and making the catches. He just needs to work on his celebrations.

- Kwame Harris: Yes I know I had to ruin the fun by mentioning this turd. The 49ers need to replace Harris at the first opportunity they can. Another holding penalty that nulified a key run from Smith.

- Defense: This unit at one point had Hannibal Navies and Roderick Green out there. They shut down Alexander and came up with the big plays when they needed. After three weeks of crappy play they stepped up again.

Overall for one quarter the team played as a whole and embarrassed the Seahawks in their house in front of the 12th man. What is it that Mastercard says…Priceless.

the sad thing about kwame is that his biggest problem is timing, he can never get a holding on a play where we get sacked or lose yards, or even a play where there is an incomplete pass or a run for no gain, it always has to be the big play.

  2. shane says:

instead of drafting defence in the first round maybe we should go after kwane “i suck” harris’s replacemetn or atleast a 2nd rounder

  3. Chrissooner49er says:

Can you say “Eric Steinbach”? I knew you could….. Yes, he can be the replacement at RT for Harris if they do go after him in Free Agency.

  4. Dave says:

    Uh Steinbach is a guard.

  5. sfffan says:

Well, if Steinbach can man the guard position (which obviously he can), that would free up Snyder to slide outside. Now, Snyder is by no means more talented than Kwame. But I’m sure he’ll learn not to hold on big plays a whole lot sooner.

I mean, if the play called in the huddle has AB or VD on a fly route, DONT HOLD. It’s not rocket science.

LOL Erickson!!! Read my comments from 49ers sweep the Seahawks from this morning! We think very much alike!

niner cap hell has a highlight video of the 9er game. I was just thinking how our linebackers are going to be amazing next year too. Think about it, Lawson will put on some pounds and be amazing, Moore will be moved inside with smith, and then we get Briggs on the other side, and can spend all our cap money in the secoundary, D-line, and the O-line (RT, C, and, a RG or LG).

  8. eddie says:

i think we should let dave baas start at center to see if he is any good.plus we got tony wraggle who is a decent back up at guard and center. i think eric heitmann should be the top back up.he never finishes a season.does any one know how long synder is out for?

  9. Tim says:

With 10 days to prepare for the next game I really want to see Bass play center… I remember reading comments by coaches saying that he is on track that he is just waiting for this opportunity. With 2 mayor games left its time for him to prove him self. It really sucks for Heitmann i was voting for him for the prowbowl. The more impressive thing about this season is that in our division we have play well we should win it next season….

  11. Big M says:

i’d be surprised if we got briggs. if we did it would probably be to play inside, which i’m not sure he can. we gotta get adalius thomas.

  12. NinerFan408 says:

Heitmann has only missed part of one season in his whole career. he does not have injury problems.
